So you might have heard of a clothing subscription for women. Usually what it entails is getting 5 articles of clothing once a month. As you go along with your subscription, they ask you lots of questions about what you like in clothing, what type of clothes you are looking for (casual, work, date night), and what size you need of different things. Then you can either keep all the clothes, some of the clothes, or none of the clothes. But, did you know, that there are clothing subscriptions for kids?
Why do I bring this up? Because the clothing subscription is a must have for my gifted, high sensory, clothes loving boy. My youngest son is super gifted, and I think this just makes him so picky about his clothes. He is all about textures and comfort. And the subscription we use is awesome for him. In fact, it is called Rockets of Awesome.
Keep reading and I will tell you all about them and why my son and I both love them so much.
How the Clothing Subscription for Kids Begins
Okay, so the Rockets of Awesome clothing subscription is made just for kids and tested by kids. What my son and I did was fill out a survey about all of his likes and dislikes. They asked if he like buttons and zippers (he does not). They asked if he liked graphic tees and pants with a tie (he sure does). Then they showed him four styles and he picked which one he liked the best (he picked the “cool” style). They also asked what colors he would wear (mostly all of them) and what colors he absolutely would not wear (yellow and pink for him) And then they asked what was most important to him when it came to his clothes (he said soft and comfortable).
Of course they also asked about what size he was and important questions like that. I answered those questions, but then I let him have my computer and answer all the other questions. One thing about my son, and most gifted children, he know what clothes he likes to wear.
Then What Happens Next
Once the Rockets of Awesome people get my son’s preferences, then the magic happens. In about a week they send us an email letting us know my son’s box is ready for review. This is the part that both of us really like. You get to preview what they are going to send you, before they send it. My son likes this because then he feels like he has a little control, but it is not overwhelming. But it is uncanny how close they get to his style. They are pretty amazing. Usually there are just about two things out of eight that he does not like.
So, when he says “no thanks” to two articles of clothing, he gets to pick two pieces of clothing that he does like. From about twenty different things, again, not the whole store, but enough to choose from that he always finds something he likes. Then we tell them to send it to us.
When we get the Box
So it takes about 3 days for my son’s box to get to us. And it is always a great day, a little like christmas. So we have already seen the clothes online, but we have not felt them. This is why both my son and I are so excited for the box to actually come. My son is very high sensory, meaning that the clothes have to be soft and comfortable or he will not wear it, period. No matter how much I beg him to wear things that are cute but uncomfortable. I can not even get the kid to wear jeans. He also uses a weighted blanket to sleep because of sensory issues.
So we are excited to actually feel the clothes and have my son wear the clothes. Rockets of Awesome always knocks it out of the park for having soft and comfy clothes. And just plain fun clothes that my son likes to wear. And they are very good quality with things like reinforced knees in the pants and no running colors. I wash all of his clothes together and have never had any colors run unto other clothes.
There was only once time where the back of a shirt was scratchy because of the decal on the front. My son refused to wear it (I told you he was high sensory). But that was only one time and one shirt, and we have gotten the box many times.
When you get the box, they also include a return envelope. In case there is anything you want to send back. But we never have because my son gets to choose the clothes that he gets. And if you keep everything, you get a discount.
How Often Does the Clothing Subscription Box for Kids Come?
Notice I did not say the monthly clothing subscription box. Because it does not some monthly. It comes seasonally. So four times a year. This is perfect for us because right when I am ready to switch my son’s clothes out for the next season, they get ready to send us a box.
I especially love that every time they go to send us a box, they as if any sizes or preferences have changed. Because one, kids do grow. And two, their preferences change. My son went through a season where he wanted all camo clothes. Now he doesn’t like camo at all. So we took that off his list.
And I really just like their set up because it is definitely geared toward the child. He picks everything, except for the sizing. I have to intercede with that. Otherwise, I let him have free reign to get whatever he wants out of the choices they give him.
So this is the best option for both me and my picky son. Less time wasted going to stores finding clothes that my son will wear. And more enjoyable for him to get to pick clothes for his high sensory ways.
