So many times when I am working at the pharmacy. The very first health concern a woman ends up having is high blood pressure. Usually it starts out just a little bit high and you are told to keep an eye on it, change diet, and exercise. But in a few years, even though you do these things, you still have to go on medication to lower the blood pressure.

But what if during those years, when you are changing your diet and trying to exercise (go to this blog if you needed some healthy eating ideas!). You also add essential oils to your arsenal of things to help bring that blood pressure down? Then, maybe you would be able to delay or even completely eliminate the need for the medication. So read on to see what essential oils to lower blood pressure you need.
First Oil Blend
I am going to tell you about two different essential oil blends that can help lower your blood pressure. The thing about blood pressure is that it is each person is different, so it will be trial and error about what blend will help. So this is a blend that could help you.
Bergamot Essential Oil
Bergamot essential oil is so helpful for lowering the blood pressure because it reduces the calcium levels in the cells, reduces inflammation in the blood vessels, and also dilates the blood vessels. These three things all help to lower the blood pressure.
Black Pepper Essential Oil
This oil might surprise you because it is certainly not used very often. But it is great lowering blood pressure. It does this by inhibiting ACE activity. This is exactly what an ACE Inhibitor does such as lisinopril or enalapril, but these are medications and come with side effects such as a dry cough and dizziness. Black pepper will give you no side effects.

Spearmint Essential Oil
Spearmint is an oil that is a calcium channel blocker. Which is another way that you can lower your blood pressure. A calcium channel blocker is a pill also that sometimes people have to take to lower blood pressure, such as amlodipine or verapamil. But spearmint oil doesn’t have any side effects.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender oil is great at relaxing the body. And it is great at relaxing the blood vessels. Which will lower your blood pressure. So for this blend, fill a veggie cap with 5 drops bergamot and 2 drops each of black pepper, spearmint, and lavender. And you can take that daily or twice daily. Here are some veggie caps I recommend.
If you do not want to ingest the oils you can make this in a rollerball bottle and apply to the bottoms of your feet, the inside of your wrists, over your heart, and on the sides and back of your neck once or twice daily. If you want to make a rollerball blend, put 25 drops of bergamot, and 10 drops each of black pepper, spearmint, and lavender. And fill the rest of a 10ml rollerball bottle with coconut oil. Here are some roller ball bottles and coconut oil that I recommend!
Second Oil Blend
Here is another blend that could help lower your blood pressure. This blend has basil, lavender and marjoram. You put three drops each into a veggie cap. And then take it daily. Same with this one, if you do not want to ingest them then you can make a rollerball blend. Put about 15 drops of each of the three oils in a 10ml rollerball bottle and fill up the rest with coconut oil. Then apply to bottoms of the feet, the inside of the wrists, over the heart and on the side and back of the neck. Do this daily or twice daily depending on how much you have to lower the blood pressure.
As you may notice, lavender is in both of these blends to help lower blood pressure. And this is because lavender is very relaxing. Go to my blog post about other uses for lavender!
Other Essential Oils to Try
There are a few other essential oils that can help lower the blood pressure that I wanted mention. Clary sage and ylang ylang are sometimes helpful. And also helichrysum is also an option to think about. You can try these ones just like the other blends I have already talked about, either put in a veggie cap or put on all the places on the body I mentioned before.
Each Person Is Different
The thing about blood pressure and essential oils is that each person is different and will respond differently to different oils. To find the best essential oil for you to lower your blood pressure is to try a new oil or blend. Then take your blood pressure at different intervals like 5 minutes, 1 hour, 8 hours and 16 hours. Also try applying the oils hourly, every 8 hours and every 24 hours. If you are ingesting the oils with a veggie cap, do not do more than twice a day.

Then you need to keep a record of your blood pressure for all the different oils. And then you can take (or apply) the oil or blend that works best for lowering your blood pressure. Yes, this will take some time, but it is better than taking a pill. So try out all these options that I have given you and see what works for you!
