I have so many women that come to the pharmacy and get their medication for their thyroid. Most of these ladies have what is called hypothyroidism or a thyroid that is underactive. Not working as well as it should. Though there are a few that have hyperthyroidism, where the thyroid is overactive.

And there are times that medication is definitely needed. But what if there are essential oils good for thyroid, instead of having to take daily medication? It could be one less pill that you have to take. So keep reading to see what oils you can use to regulate that thyroid.
Essential Oils Good For Regulating Thyroid
The oils for underactive and overactive thyroid are pretty much the same, because the oils are about regulating the thyroid to where it needs to be. Unlike medication that has different medication for overactive thyroid and underactive thyroid.
Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense oil is the number one oil that you need for your thyroid. (if you want to read other uses for frankincense such as those wrinkles go read my blog post). And there a couple ways that you can use it. And both will help. So you can put two drops of frankincense (as long as it is good quality frankincense from a good company) under the tongue everyday. This does not taste the best, which is why you put it under the tongue.
But if you don’t want to put under your tongue. You can also apply directly to the thyroid. Your thyroid is right on your throat. So you can just put on your throat right above your collar bone. You can put a couple drops on your finger and apply it that way.
But another way to do it is to put in a rollerball bottle and dilute with coconut oil. Then you can roll on the frankincense easily with the rollerball bottle. About 1/4 of the bottle the frankincense oil and the rest with the coconut oil. You need to apply twice a day. Here are some roller ball bottles and coconut oil that I like to use.
A Great Blend To Try
There is a blend that is also great for an underactive thyroid. There are four essential oils in it. They are grounding blend, geranium, lemongrass and myrrh. These are all awesome oils to help you with the thyroid. Put about 20 drops of each oil into a 10ml roller ball bottle and fill the rest with coconut oil.
Then roll it on the thyroid area at least twice daily. You could also roll it on the bottom of the big toe, because this is a reflexology point that is directly to the thyroid. Do this at least twice a day also. I will put the recipe for this blend at the bottom of this post!
Here is Another Blend
So your options are to use just frankincense, and you can use the blend above. And you can use them together if you wanted. But there is also another blend to try that has the frankincense already in it.
This blend is also in a 10ml roller ball bottle and 4 essential oils. This has 20 drops of clove essential oil, 20 drops of myrrh, 15 drops of lemongrass and 25 drops of frankincense. Then fill the rest of the roller ball bottle with coconut oil. Roll this blend on the thyroid and the bottom of the big toe at least twice a day. I will also put this recipe at the bottom of the post also!

Thyroid Nodules
I wanted to take a second to mention thyroid nodules. You might not know that these are solid or fluid-filled lumps on the thyroid. They are rarely cancerous, but you should have them checked out. If you want to know more about thyroid nodules, go to the mayo clinic informational website.
If you find out that the nodules are not cancerous, there are essential oils you can use to help shrink them. The two oils you need is frankincense (remember when I said frankincense is always involved with thyroid problems!) and sandalwood.
So put about 20 drops of frankincense and 20 drops of sandalwood in a 10 ml roller ball bottle. And then fill the rest with coconut oil. Then you roll on the thyroid area (right above the collar bone) about 2-3 times a day. I will put the recipe also at the bottom for you.
Basic Multi-Vitamin
With anything I read about helping the thyroid. It mentions that you need to take a good quality multi-vitamin. This helps you have all the supplements on board so your body and the essential oils have the best chance of regulating the thyroid. If you were wondering how to pick a good quality multi-vitamin, go read my blog post I wrote about this.
Since there are so many women that have thyroid problems. I wanted to be sure to write a blog post about some natural essential oils for thyroid.

Hi, just want to make sure:
I use essential oils now and then especially for foot soaks. But I’m interested in the thyroid blend. I’ve been on Eltroxin for many years, one x o. 5 every day.
Would it be safe or possible to replace replace the script for essential oil blends?
nesswund says
Hi Zenia!
I think it is possible to get off your medication and use just essential oils for your thyroid. I would just reach out to your doctor first!
Brenda says

grounding blend is a generic name for a blend that most oil companies have, my oil company calls it Balance but I’m not sure what other oil companies call it.

Tracey Simmons says
Which roller blend do you reccommend #1 or #2 for underactive hypothyroidism?
nesswund says
I would try the #2 roller blend first because this has the frankincense in it and frankincense has shown to be very helpful for most people for thyroid! But if you find that blend not helping, definitely try the first blend!
