It is hard being a working mom. I feel like I go through each day just planning the logistics of where everyone needs to go. And who needs to be picked up where. And what homework needs to be done. Plus, my job as a pharmacist is pretty busy and stressful. So I have that on top of the regular mom of school aged kids stuff. Do you feel me? Are you feeling overwhelmed with life? Here are some tips to help you beat the overwhelm.
1. Make a Plan
You need to make a plan if you are feeling overwhelmed with life. I don’t care if you do this the night before, the morning of, or plan out the whole week. I personally try to plan out the week. Put down everything you need to do. Such as block off the time you need to go to work. Then look at all your kids’ activities for the week and figure out how they are going to get there and get back. And just all the things with your kids.
In your plan, do not forget about yourself. You need to include all the things you need to do. And I don’t mean laundry. Laundry is a required task that you always have to do. I mean, what are the things you need to get done for yourself. Like I always include my time to blog. This way, every week, I feel like I get done more than doing just the mom thing.
2. Include Your Kiddos
My boys are older now, and I always include them in the schedule. Especially my older one who is 8th grade. We always go over the schedule together, and make sure he has time for homework and such. And then there are days that he volunteers to ride his bike to school so I don’t have to worry about him getting there. This helps with the feeling overwhelmed with life. It takes one thing off me that I don’t have to do. Plus, if there are times he needs a ride home and I’m not sure how to get him picked up, he finds his own ride. This takes away the feeling overwhelmed with life.
3. Stop the Mindless Scrolling
Of course when I feel overwhelmed, I look at my social media accounts. Because that is more fun than doing all the things. But if you are just doing mindless scrolling, you are not accomplishing anything. I do use social media, I have a blog and a huge fb business page. But if you are going to look at social media, it has to be with intent. And it needs to be during a certain scheduled time. Don’t plan your whole schedule and then not follow it. This will just add to your feeling of overwhelm with life.
4. Just Say No
If you are feeling overwhelmed with life, need to learn to say no. If someone asks you to do something extra, you need to think about how you are feeling about your life’s tasks. And you need to think about the rate of return. This might be selfish, but when you are asked to do something, you need to see if the benefit outweighs the time it takes. This includes saying no to your kiddos if their request is not necessary.
Your time is valuable because you are a mom and you work. You do not have enough time. So if something extra doesn’t give you enough benefit. Then you do not do it.
