I feel like we all know someone who is pregnant and having a baby (maybe it is you!). And one of the questions that the mamas always ask is what to pack in their hospital bag. They want to know what they need when they go through labor and have the baby.

And no matter what kind of labor the mom is planning, natural or with medication. Essential oils can be helpful with all kinds of things during labor, delivery and for the newborn baby. There are oils for pain, distraction, nausea, and relaxation, just to name a few of the uses.
So I made a hospital bag checklist for mom and baby’s needs. It has all the essential oils a pregnant mom will need to pack for her labor. If you want the checklist of all the essential oils, you can get it below!
Clary Sage Is A Must
If you want to see the whole checklist, get the list above. But I am going to go over some of the important essential oils to take care of the hospital bag checklist for mom and baby’s needs. The first one is clary sage. I do not know if this will actually be put in the hospital bag. Because you use clary sage to induce labor.
If you are overdue (or the pregnant mama you know) and ready for the baby to come out. You can put on clary sage that will help jump start your labor. If you wanted to try this. You can put the clary sage on your pregnant tummy. And also on the inside of your ankle, this is a reflex point to your uterus.
You can put the the clary sage directly on without diluting. But if you want to dilute and put in a roller ball bottle. That would be just fine too. Here are some different coconut oils you can use for diluting and also some roller ball bottles that I would recommend.
Definitely Need Peppermint
Peppermint can be used in multiple ways when it comes to labor. So it is definitely on the hospital bag checklist for mom and baby’s needs. Peppermint is great for energy, which is something that all laboring mamas need.
A great way to use the peppermint so you can get some energy, is to put the peppermint and wild orange in a diffuser. This way you can get the uplifting and energy for hours. Here are some diffusers! You definitely want to pack one in the hospital bag.
Peppermint is also great for nausea and vomiting. I did not even know that nausea was a part of labor. But nausea and vomiting is actually a natural pain response and a sign that you are dilating. And peppermint is super helpful for easing the nausea. Just apply the peppermint diluted with coconut oil and in a roller ball bottle, directly to the belly. If you wanted to see other dilution oils your can use instead of coconut oil go to this post.
And since nausea is not just for laboring mamas. Go check out my post about all the uses for peppermint. Including that nausea.

Frankincense Is So Useful
Frankincense is a must have, to be on the hospital bag checklist for mom and baby’s necessities. And the reason you need it is because it is all about the healing! Two ways you can use it is for healing the mom’s perineum. Because after she pushes a baby out of there, she will definitely need some healing oil.
Frankincense can also be used on the baby’s head. Because being born is also quite an experience (I assume!), the baby also needs some healing. Apply the frankincense around the crown of the baby’s head because the head is usually what leads the way through the birth canal.
Not all moms can have a vaginal birth. Sometimes a mama needs a C-section. And you can use frankincense on the incision where they took the baby out.
Always Lavender
Lavender is the first oil that I used. And it is great for so many things. Including the hospital bag checklist for mom and baby’s needs. Lavender is so calming, which is exactly what you need during labor. You can open the bottle and have the laboring mom smell the lavender. Or she can put it on her temples.
One of the things I really like about lavender is that it is very gentle. So you can dilute it if you want before using on mama. But you do not have to. Lavender is also for soothing the skin. So it can be very helpful for healing the mom’s perineum if you also mix it with the frankincense.
Also, you can use lavender to calm the new born baby. And like I said, it is very gentle. I would still dilute the lavender with coconut oil. And then you can apply to the bottom of the baby’s feet. Just think about being at the hospital and you have a new baby that is crying. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an essential oil that you can apply to calm the baby down?

Have You Ever Heard of White Fir?
White Fir is kind of a different oil that not everyone has heard of. But white fir is awesome for helping with those contractions that come after birth. When a mom has a baby, the uterus continues to contract because this is how the uterus shrinks back to its more normal size pre baby.
And while these after birth contractions are not as painful as the contractions during labor, but they can still be uncomfortable. So use some white fir right on the belly area. And this will help with the discomfort. Either apply directly to the uterus or mix with some coconut oil and put in a roller ball bottle.
These are just a few of the essential oils that are on the hospital bag checklist for mom and baby’s needs. To see these and the other ones on the list. Download the checklist below! It will be sent to your email!
