I have been a nail biter my whole entire life. Which means that my finger nails are very weak and brittle. Until I found out that essential oils could help out. Maybe you are like me and bite your nails. Or maybe you just happen to have weak nails. It seems like nails are the first place that become weak if you do not have enough nutrients.
If this is you, keep reading about what essential oils for nails to use. One, to strengthen those nails. And two, to find out how you can get more nutrients for those weak, brittle nails. And three, if you find yourself with a little nail fungus.
The First Oil is Lemon
Lemon is a simple essential oil that you might just pass over for nails. But, let me tell you, it is the first one you need to reach for. When you need essential oils for nails, especially if they are weak and brittle. Lemon is such an awesome oil to strengthen those nails.
So all you need to do is apply some lemon essential oil. No dilution is necessary. Just put a couple drops of lemon essential oil on each finger nail. Then let it sit on there or you can rub it into your nail. You will need to do this once to twice daily for awhile. About two to three months. But you will start to notice that your finger nails start to get stronger as they grow out.
When In Doubt, Use Frankincense
So we always say that when in doubt, use frankincense. And this is no different when it comes to essential oils for nails. Frankincense is all about healing. And weak and brittle finger nails need to be healed. So frankincense is awesome on those nails.
There are two ways you can use your frankincense on your nails. First, you can put just a couple drops on the frankincense right on the finger nail a couple times a day. But frankincense (at least good quality frank) is pretty expensive so another option is to dilute the frankincense with coconut oil and then put in a roller ball bottle. Then you can just roll on your finger nails once or twice a day. These are the roller ball bottles I use.

How About A Blend?
So both lemon and frankincense are awesome essential oils for nails. And they are going to help to strengthen those brittle nails. But if you put these two oils and a few other essential oils, that would help even more. So if you want to make a blend, obviously use lemon and frankincense. And also you can add lavender, geranium and rosemary.
These three oils are great for the skin so when you have all of these five essential oils together. The lemon and frankincense will strengthen and the finger nail and the lavender, geranium and rosemary will help the skin around the nail. So if you get hang nails or if the skin around your nails just hurts, then these three oils will help with this part of the nail.
So what I would do is put all of these essential oils into a roller ball bottle and then dilute with coconut oil. Then just put on your nails, and around the skin of the nail, a couple times a day. The roller ball bottle makes it super handy because all you have to do is roll it over all your nails. If you want to strengthen the nails and heal that skin around the nails, this is the blend to use.
Vitamins for Nail Strength
So I wrote a post about getting a good quality multi-vitamin and all the benefits. Go and read the post here. But did you know that along with all the benefits an additional benefit is that a good multi-vitamin can strengthen your weak and brittle nails? A multi-vitamin has those good nutrients that your nails need.
I started taking a multi-vitamin and after a few months my nails are so strong. Like I said, I have always been a nail biter so I have never had strong nails. And I just thought that was the way it was. But taking these multi-vitamins along with getting all those daily nutrients, it also made my nails so strong. So strong that I can not even bite my finger nails. My husband even asked what what I was doing when I was using nail clippers on my nails!
How About The Nail Fungus
So I have told you all about what essential oils to use for strengthening the nails. And also making sure you take your multi-vitamins so you get the nutrients you need. But what about nail fungus? It seems like tons of people get a little fungus in their toe nails quite a bit.
As a pharmacist, I know that those creams, gels, and solutions you paint on your nails do not work to get rid of the fungus. And some people then go to a medication to get rid of the nail fungus. I think this is crazy because why would you take something that will systemically go through your whole body to try and take care of a little toe nail. Another thing is that the medicine people take is very hard on your liver. Why would you take something that could harm your liver just to get fungus out of your toe nail?
But guys, I get it, nobody wants to have nail fungus. Thank goodness there is an oil for that. Tea tree oil (melaleuca) is amazing at helping get rid of toe nail fungus. All you need to do is put a couple drops of straight tea tree oil (not diluted) onto the nail fungus two times a day. Yes, this will take a month or two to work. But it is better than taking a medication (a medication that takes the same amount of time to work). It is worth a try.
So let us start getting those weak and brittle nails strengthened. Or if you have a nail fungus, I have help for that also.
